Erotic Museum–What Next?
by Larry Ray Hafley
From Louisville, KY, and The Courier Journal, we extract the following:
"Playboy founder Hugh Hefner, 78, became the first person to be inducted into the Hollywood Hall of Fame Erotic Museum. According to E! Online, America’s favorite bachelor even donated some of his favorite artifacts for the new exhibit, including a pair of pajamas, a pipe, and a bunny costume" (9/17/04, E1).
Is there no shame left? Apparently, not. Jeremiah 6:15 is appropriate here-"Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? No! They were not at all ashamed; nor did they know how to blush. Therefore they shall fall among those who fall; at the time I punish them, they shall be cast down, says the Lord."
With deep and profound sorrow, we say that Mr. Hefner had better enjoy this life as much as possible, for he has an eternity of torment and misery awaiting him if he does not repent (2 Thess. 1:7-9; Rev. 21:8). Truly, his life, so admired and honored by the world, has been one which befits the description of Paul, when he said of all such men, "whose end is destruction, whose god is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame-who set their mind on earthly things" (Phil. 3:19).
Imagine coming down to the end of nearly fourscore and ten years of life and having "a pair of pajamas, a pipe, and a bunny costume" as your legacy, as your symbol of greatness, as a reminder of who you were and what you lived for! Can you imagine anything more cheap, more debasing, and more indicative of all that is worldly, sensual, morally rotten, and godless than are those items?
Museums and artifacts of the lives of great men are interesting and inspiring. A nation’s class and culture is seen in what it seeks to preserve and to remember. The achievements and accomplishments of Edison and the Wright brothers and the lovely, yet mournful battlefields at Gettysburg and Shiloh say much about our great country. Unfortunately, this latest Hollywood Erotic Museum also speak about what we have become. Shame, shame, shame! May God withhold his wrath and sustain the righteous by his grace.
