Berry, Beauty And The Bible
by Larry Ray Hafley
Halle Berry is a beautiful, Academy Award winning actress. Recently, an article about her said the following:
"It’s not easy being gorgeous. Halle Berry should know. ’Beauty? Let me tell you something-being thought of as a beautiful woman has spared me nothing in life,’ she said. ’No heartache, no trouble. Love has been difficult. Beauty is meaningless, and it is always transitory’....the 35 year old Berry criticized the obsession with beauty and youth that she said prompted some to get plastic surgery" (Houston Chronicle, 8/3/04).
Berry’s comments on beauty are on target with the Bible:
"As a ring of gold in a swine’s snout, So is a beautiful woman who lacks discretion" (Prov. 11:22).
"An excellent wife is the crown of her husband, but she who causes shame is like rottenness in his bones" (Prov. 12:4).
"Charm is deceitful and beauty is vain, But a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised" (Prov. 31:30). "Strength and honor are her clothing...and in her tongue is the law of kindness" (Prov. 31:25, 26).
Speaking of godly, virtuous women, Peter said, "Do not let your beauty be that outward adorning of arranging the hair, of wearing gold, or of putting on fine apparel; but let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible ornament of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God" 1 Pet. 3:3, 4).
"Give unto the Lord the glory due unto his name...and come before him: worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness" (1 Chron. 16:29).
Ladies, and fathers and mothers of little girls, read those words of God again and sear them in your heart.
