Words Of Love And Comfort
 by Larry Ray Hafley
As a preacher of the gospel, I have been to many funerals over the years. I have felt my heart break as I have watched people morn the death of their loved one. Too, I have heard them speak soft, kind, loving and tender words to their dear one who lies deaf in death.

That is natural. I remember doing the same over my own mother and father after they had gone to be with the Lord. Thus, I do not criticize such words, for I understand their depth.

However, should we not speak tender, affectionate words to the ear that can hear and to the heart that can be moved and touched by them? Let us not wait to express our love in the silent chamber of death. Rather, let us tell it now. Let us take our bouquets of love to those aged ones who can still appreciate them.

While kindly words and deeds may still be cherished, while thoughtful gifts, visits, and food may still be useful, let us supply it. Let us not wait until our loved one is gone to give our time, to give our gifts, to make our visit, and to bring food.

I have seen the anguish and heard the wails of sorrow of those who wish they had done and said things to their loved one before it was too late. Believe me, there are no words to soothe their regretful hearts.

So, say it now.
